Name: Carlos Cubia
Previous title: Senior vice president, global chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer, Walgreens Boots Alliance
New title: Chief inclusion, equity, diversity and sustainability officer, BHSH System
Cubia will be joining BHSH, which was formed in February when Beaumont Health and Spectrum Health merged to form a 22-hospital, $13 billion system in Michigan, on June 30.
He is charged with driving the company "toward its goals of transforming health for the communities it serves, improving health and health equity, and fostering a culture of belonging."
At Walgreens, Cubia developed and implemented a diversity and inclusion strategy for 400,000 employees across 17 countries. Before that, he held vice president roles at Covidien, Aetna and Blue Cross Blue Shield.
“Despite the life-altering impacts of COVID-19, systemic racism and social determinants that affect some people more than others, I see real promise,” Cubia said in a statement. “We know that if we are to succeed in helping people live healthier, happier lives, we must create a culture in which DE&I and health equity are at the center."
